Contractual Arrangements

In order to maintain integrity with its unique research-base, the core of OI is a standardised training programme that must be delivered to a consistent format. OI is usually introduced in a one-day training course although a two-day version is available.

Consultancy based on the OI methodology, must be delivered according to the OI Guidelines for Intervention (available separately). Other OI programmes, for larger organisations, are available but licensed consultants / trainers of the SME version cannot deliver them without additional training modules and tests of competence.

Who can deliver OI?

All OI programmes must be led a licensed trainer / consultant (i.e. one who holds a certificate of competence obtained from one of the two developing organisations). OI trainers and consultants must have completed a train-the-trainer programme, after which they will be required to demonstrate their competence. Trainers/ Consultants are required to undertake ongoing professional development and submit an biannual report. Providing the work of the trainer / consultant is satisfactory, the licence will be renewed for a further two years.

Levels of OI Consultants and Trainers

There are three levels of consultants / trainers:

Licensing Trainers / Consultants have deep expertise in all aspects of OI and are empowered to train and license trainers / consultants.

Licensed Trainers / Consultants have demonstrated their ability to deliver the OI to a range of different audiences. Licences last for two years but will be renewed if the biannual report showing ongoing development is satisfactory.

Trainee Trainers / Consultants are undertaking a structured programme to develop their knowledge and skills to deliver the OI methodology effectively.

Trainee Trainers / Consultants

Those selected to become OI trainers and consultants are required to meet the following requirements:

An interest in innovation management from a business development perspective;
